Blackmore relishing Minella Indo’s return

Jockey Rachael Blackmore says Minella Indo can return to winning ways at Leopardstown this weekend.

The eight-year-old will run in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup on Sunday, just two months after falling at the same track.

Henry De Bromhead’s charge fell at the eighth fence in the Savills Chase, but connections are not worried that it will have any knock-on effects.

Before his fall, Minella Indo had won back-to-back races at Wexford and Navan, and Blackmore says she is excited to get back on board one of her most-cherished rides.

She told reporters: “Minella Indo has been fantastic to me. He gave me my first Grade One in the Albert Bartlett in Cheltenham, which was an incredible day.

“We’re really looking forward to running him. It was unfortunate what happened to him in Leopardstown the last day, (but) he seems to have been very good since – I gave him a pop (over fences) last week and there seems to be no ill effects.

“It was just one of those things, and we move on to the next day.”

Minella Indo will face a maximum of four rivals in the feature event on Sunday, with Kemboy, Melon, Delta Work and The Storyteller completing the field.
