Envoi Allen sidesteps Leopardstown showdown

Envoi Allen was not amongst the declarations for Saturday’s PCI Irish Champion Hurdle with Honeysuckle leading a 10-strong field.

The unbeaten Envoi Allen had been pencilled in for the Grade One contest on the opening day of the Dublin Racing Festival as trainer Gordon Elliot looks to step up his Cheltenham Festival preparations.

With a perfect seven out of seven record so far in his career, Envoi Allen is fancied to perform well at Prestbury Park come March and currently holds entries for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle, with the latter thought to be the preferred race.

There is still a chance the seven-year-old could be in action on the Sunday at Leopardstown but the decision to skip the Irish Champion Hurdle denies racegoers the chance to see him lock horns with Honeysuckle and Klassical Dream ahead of the Festival.

Aramon, Darver Star, Monsieur Lecoq, Petit Mouchoir, Saglawy, Sharjah, Supasundae and Ballycaines complete the field for the Irish Champion Hurdle, with Apple’s Jade the only absentee at the forfeit stage.
