Morrison considers weekend Newbury swerve

Trainer Hughie Morrison has revealed Not So Sleepy could miss the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on Saturday.

Not So Sleepy is the market leader with several bookmakers for Saturday’s showpiece after racking up back-to-back victories in November and December, with both wins coming at Ascot.

However, the eight-year-old is not a certainty to run in Berkshire after Morrison reveals connections are considering swerving the Grade Three prize to focus fully on the Cheltenham Festival in March.

The East Ilsley handler has confirmed the Lady Blyth-owned charge, who will definitely be heading to Prestbury Park, must school in order to run in the Betfair Hurdle.

“He has got to school well on Tuesday or we might not run him. We have always been a possible or probably, and I’ve tried to be fairly open like that,” Morrison was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“Everything needs to be right and, if there is any doubt, we will wait for Cheltenham.”
