Greatrex excited about Emitom future

Trainer Warren Greatrex believes Emitom proved he has what it takes to perform on the big stage after his Cheltenham Festival display.

Emitom produced a commanding performance to win at Haydock Park in the Unibet Rendlesham Hurdle in February, beating Donna’s Diamond by eight lengths, and the decision was made to send him to Cheltenham.

Although failing to claim the spoils at Prestbury Park, the six-year-old managed to finish fourth in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle and there have been plenty of positives to take from his display.

Having shown he can get around Cheltenham, Lambourn handler Greatrex believes there are plenty more big race days ahead for Epitom when racing eventually returns.

“He went through the race brilliantly and jumped much better. There was a question whether he would handle Cheltenham, but I think that proved it is no issue to him,” he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“He winged the last and has beaten some good horses like Summerville Boy and Paisley Park, so we can take a lot of credit from that. He is only six and is maybe still a bit weak to get home properly in a race like that.

“But he has run very well and from my point of view the most exciting part is there is plenty more there. There is a lot to look forward to.”
