Kirk relaxed over salouen return

Trainer Sylvester Kirk says all is good with stable star Salouen, although a return to racing will not be rushed.

Salouen started 2019 in fine fashion with a victory at Ascot in the Carey Group Buckhounds Stakes, and this was followed up with a third-place finish in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs.

The six-year-old also impressed when ending up fourth in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Ascot, but disappointment followed at the Curragh last time out in September, where he was ninth of 10 runners.

However, it was revealed after the poor run in the Irish St Leger that Salouen was struggling with injury and he has been given extra time to recover, with racing shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, with the hopes of racing returning (check out these best horse racing tips) to do the hopes of a comeback for the colt, but Kirk insists he will not be making any hasty decisions on sending his charge back into action.

“He’s had time off from his injury, he’s recovered well and basically been started back the last five or six weeks, slow away and slow build up. All’s good with him,” he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“There’s no rush, it’s been a bonus as far as he’s concerned having that extra little bit of time. It’s just a case of finding the right ground for him and minding him – his best performances.
