Fanning fancies Royal tilt

Joe Fanning expects Army Of India to be heading to Royal Ascot after his victory at Kempton on Tuesday.

Time is key for trainers to get their youngsters ready with Royal Ascot only two weeks away and Mark Johnston wasted little time with Army Of India landing the first two-year-old race of the rescheduled season.

And Army Of India obliged to hold off the challenge of favourite Science to make all and win by a short head, with Painless Potter back in third.

Fanning was delighted with the win and is now expecting a run at the Royal meeting.

Fanning said: “We fancied him strongly and would have been disappointed if he wasn’t there or thereabouts. The two-year-old races are going to be strong leading up to Royal Ascot.

“He did it easy all the way. He pricked his ears a little in the straight and was always going to pull out more. I was happy and he wasn’t doing a stroke in front.

“I think in time he’d stay further but for the moment six will be fine and I’d say he’ll be off to Royal Ascot. The two-year-olds at home look nice collectively and I’d be hoping for a good few winners.”
