Connections target July Cup for Khaadem

Khaadem is being aimed at the July Cup as connections look to kick on from his recent Royal Ascot run.

The four-year-old was a game fourth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, looking strong before tailing off in the final couple of furlongs as Hello Youmzain went on to score.

Faster ground is hoped for at Newmarket and those in and around the Charlie Hills-trained sprinter are expecting more from the son of Dark Angel.

Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, says a trip to HQ on Saturday week is the priority, with hopes high for a successful run.

“The plan at the moment is to go to Newmarket,” said Gold. “He ran well at Ascot. He was a bit fresh. The ground was a little bit too easy for him, arguably, but it didn’t quite go his way – without making excuses.

“I think he can improve on that, so hopefully we get fast ground and he could run well.”
