Botti reveals US plans

Trainer Marco Botti says Malotru could eventually head to the US but current plans are being assessed due to travel restrictions.

The three-year-old performed strongly to earn third place in Group One company at Deauville on Sunday, finishing three-and-a-quarter-lengths behind winner Pinatubo.

Malotru has attracted plenty of admirers over the past 12 months after winning a Group Three in Italy and claiming a Listed victory at Lingfield in February.

Botti has gone back to the drawing board following Sunday’s outing as he looks to ensure his charge can continue on a positive trajectory.

The Group Two Hungerford Stakes at Newbury is being considered, but Botti admits they would love to go Stateside when travel restrictions are lifted.

“We don’t know where we are going next. A race he could go for is the Hungerford Stakes, but we haven’t got a major plan at the moment,” Botti said.

“The owner lives in America and we always thought we’d take a chance over there. We think he’d stay a mile there.

“At the moment, due to the travelling issues, it’s not easy to plan and go abroad.

“He will get a mile there over two bends and fast ground. It would be ideal for him.”
