Nicholls considering switching up Cyrname plans

Paul Nicholls admits Cyrname could skip Wetherby on Saturday in favour of the Sodexo Gold Cup at Ascot.

The eight-year-old was initially being lined up for the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal but coronavirus travel complications saw those plans shelved.

Nicholls confirmed last weekend that Saturday’s Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby was the preferred option for Cyrname’s comeback.

However, the 58-year-old trainer admits plans could be switched up once again ahead of Thursday’s declaration as they look to ensure conditions suit Britain’s highest-rated horse.

Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, Nicholls said: “I’ll talk to Johnny (de la Hey, Cyrname’s owner) and see what happens with the ground and the weather.

“We haven’t got to declare until Thursday, so I can’t tell you one way or the other at the moment.”
