Trainer Evan Williams has set his sights on the 2021 Cheltenham Festival after Silver Streak’s fine run at Kempton on Boxing Day.
The seven-year-old earned his first top-level victory on Boxing Day as he finished six-and-a-half-lengths ahead of heavy favourite Epatante in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton.
Silver Streak’s success came after a change in tactics from Williams and jockey Adam Wedge, choosing to hit the front early after coming out of the stalls.
Williams said: “We talked and talked, and kept going through the race.
“The epitome of a fool is someone who keeps doing the same thing and expects a different result.”
Williams’ charge has subsequently been talked up as a serious contender to strike at next year’s Cheltenham Festival and the trainer has revealed they will wrap him up until the spring.
He added: “It will be straight to the Champion Hurdle now, and we’ll hope for a dry spring – because he is a different horse on that ground.”
