Disko set for long-awaited return

Trainer Noel Meade has revealed that Disko is closing in on a return to race action after over a year on the sidelines.

The Gigginstown House Stud-owned seven-year-old has not competed since November 2017 after fracturing his skull and wither in a stable accident earlier this year.

However, he made a giant step towards a return to race action by joining stablemate Road To Respect in a racecourse workout at Navan on Sunday and Meade has now revealed that a run in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown on December 28 could potentially be on the cards.

“Disko and Road To Respect both worked after racing at Navan. Sean (Flanagan) was on Road To Respect and Jonny (Moore) rode Disko. They just jumped a couple of fences and all went well,” Meade revealed.

“Disko has been working well at home and is coming along nicely. Nothing has been decided for him yet and I’ll have to talk to Eddie and Michael (O’Leary), but he could run at Leopardstown along with Road To Respect.”

Disko won on his last appearance in the Grade Two MyCarNeedsA.com Chase at Down Royal, while he also boasts Grade One honours following victories in the Growise Champion Novice Chase at the Punchestown Festival and the Flogas Chase at Leopardstown.
